The Fisher Building is distinguished by its exterior, which is clad in warm, orange-toned terra-cotta decorated with intricate carvings of fish, crabs, and mythical sea creatures. Designed by Charles Atwood of D. H. Burnham and Company and completed in eighteen ninety-six, the structure stands twenty stories tall on South Dearborn Street. It remains the oldest building in Chicago to reach eighteen stories or more that has not been demolished.
