The University Club of Chicago is distinguished by its Gothic Revival exterior, specifically the limestone owl perched atop the front gable on Monroe Street. Completed in nineteen oh nine and designed by the firm Holabird and Roche, the fourteen-story building is often described as one of the world's first Gothic skyscrapers. Its facade features pointed-arch windows and steep gables, contrasting with the commercial office buildings that characterize much of downtown Chicago.
