The Brattle Book Shop is easily identified by the giant number two pencil perched above its front entrance. Founded in eighteen twenty-five, this three-story brick building holds roughly two hundred and fifty thousand books, maps, and prints. While the shop maintains a rare book room on its third floor, it is perhaps most widely recognized for the open-air sale lot tucked into the alleyway next door.
