The Northern Avenue Bridge is a six hundred and forty foot long, triple-barreled swing bridge of riveted steel that spans the Fort Point Channel. Designed by Boston city engineer William Jackson, it features three truss spans and was built between nineteen oh five and nineteen oh eight to provide a vital path for horse-drawn carriages, trucks, freight trains, and pedestrians.
