The El Cortez Hotel and Casino is marked by its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and a prominent neon sign that has sat above the corner of Fremont and Sixth Streets since nineteen fifty-two. Opened on November seventh, nineteen forty-one, it remains the longest continuously operating casino in Las Vegas. While many early properties were later demolished to make way for larger resorts, this building retains much of its original exterior facade, a rarity that earned it a place on the National Register of Historic Places in two thousand thirteen.
