Cross of the Martyrs

park garden

The Cross of the Martyrs is a white steel monument reaching twenty feet into the air from a hilltop near Fort Marcy. It commemorates the twenty-one Franciscan friars killed during the Pueblo Revolt of sixteen eighty, a coordinated uprising by indigenous people against Spanish colonial rule. This site features a long, winding walkway lined with twenty historical markers that trace Santa Fe’s past, beginning with its history around five hundred AD and ending with a plaque dedicated to the future.
