Santa Fe Plaza

The Santa Fe Plaza is a central public square characterized by its flat, open layout, surrounding historic adobe-style buildings, and the long, shaded portal of the Palace of the Governors along its northern edge. Established in sixteen-ten by Governor Pedro de Peralta, this ground served as the military, commercial, and social heart of the city for over four centuries. It was laid out according to Spanish colonial planning laws, positioning the government and church at the center of a settlement located on land long used by Tewa people.
