Bataan Memorial Building

The Bataan Memorial Building is distinguished by its silver dome and neoclassical portico, a visual link to its origins as the territorial and state capitol of New Mexico. Completed in nineteen hundred, it served as the center of state government for sixty-six years until the modern state capitol building opened nearby in nineteen sixty-six. The structure reflects a blend of architectural styles, including sandstone foundations reused from a previous capitol destroyed by fire and later additions that moved the design toward a territorial aesthetic.
