New Mexico Museum of Art

The New Mexico Museum of Art is identifiable by its distinctive Pueblo Revival style, a design featuring rounded adobe walls that echo the appearance of centuries-old mission churches at Acoma and other regional pueblos. Opened in nineteen seventeen, it stands one block off the Santa Fe Plaza as the oldest state-run art museum in New Mexico. The building was the work of architects Isaac Hamilton Rapp and William M. Rapp, who adapted the aesthetic from their earlier temporary exhibition buildings in San Diego and San Francisco to create a permanent home for the state's cultural identity.
