Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is defined by its white, coiled structure that resembles a ribbon spiraling upward into a cylindrical stack. This unusual form, which contrasts sharply with the rectangular grid of Manhattan, was the vision of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Commissioned by industrialist Solomon R. Guggenheim and his art advisor Hilla Rebay, the museum was intended to provide a permanent home for a growing collection of abstract, non-objective art.
