The James B. Duke House is a limestone mansion at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East Seventy-eighth Street, identifiable by a stone balustrade that separates the building from the sidewalk. Completed in nineteen twelve, the residence was built for James Buchanan Duke, a tobacco and energy magnate. It was designed in a French Classical style, modeled after the Château Labottière in Bordeaux.
