The American Museum of Natural History stands out as a sprawling complex of twenty-one interconnected buildings, marked by its grand Beaux-Arts entrance facing Central Park West. Founded in eighteen sixty-nine by naturalist Albert Smith Bickmore, the institution began in the Central Park Arsenal before moving to this site in eighteen seventy-seven. It houses over thirty-two million specimens, ranging from massive dinosaur fossils to rare gems.
