Ukrainian Institute of America

The Ukrainian Institute of America occupies a limestone mansion at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East Seventy-Ninth Street. You can identify it by its French Renaissance style, characterized by a steep slate-shingle mansard roof, Gothic drip moldings, and intricate stone carvings of creatures including dragons. Completed in eighteen ninety-nine for banker Isaac D. Fletcher, the building was designed by architect Charles Pierrepont Henry Gilbert to resemble a Loire Valley château.
