The Frick Collection is recognizable by its expansive Indiana limestone facade, which occupies an entire block along Fifth Avenue. This Gilded Age mansion was designed by architect Thomas Hastings and completed in nineteen fourteen as the private residence of industrialist Henry Clay Frick. Inside, the structure was specifically planned to house Frick’s growing collection of Renaissance paintings, sculptures, and eighteenth-century French furniture.
