Bell Street Park

Bell Street Park is identifiable by its curbless, single-level surface that merges the roadway with pedestrian areas across four city blocks. Opened in two thousand fourteen, this project repurposed a standard street into a shared space known as a woonerf, a Dutch term for a living street. The design uses a subtle topographic shift to elevate the road to the height of the sidewalks, creating a continuous paved expanse where cars, buses, and cyclists travel alongside people walking, sitting, or playing.
