The Museum of Pop Culture is identifiable by its shimmering, distorted exterior of multicolored metal, which appears to fold, twist, and ripple across the Seattle Center landscape. Locals often call the structure the Blob, though architect Frank Gehry reportedly drew inspiration for its fractured, fluid form from a smashed electric guitar. Opened in two thousand as the Experience Music Project, the institution was founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen to honor his hero, the legendary rock guitarist and Seattle native Jimi Hendrix.
