International Fountain

The International Fountain is a wide, shallow concrete basin featuring a central silver dome that shoots complex patterns of water into the air. Built as the centerpiece for the nineteen sixty-two Seattle World’s Fair, its original design was intended to represent mankind’s exploration of outer space. Two Japanese architects, Kazuyuki Matsushita and Hideki Shimizu, won an international competition for the project when they were just twenty-nine and twenty-six years old.
