Mural Amphitheatre at Seattle Center

The Mural Amphitheatre is defined by a sixty-foot-long, cycloramic wall that serves as the backdrop for its terraced lawn. Designed by architect Paul Thiry for the nineteen sixty-two World’s Fair, the venue was built to host performances in the shadow of the Space Needle. The curved wall itself, known as the Seattle Mural, was created by the artist Paul Horiuchi. He utilized a collage technique to arrange fifty-four panels of Venetian glass, incorporating one hundred and sixty color variations intended to reflect the natural landscape of the Pacific Northwest.
