Tianjin Gardens

The Tianjin Gardens sit at the northern end of Spring Street, recognizable by their classical Chinese architectural style and the presence of two pairs of carved Sichuan white marble lions. These lions, traditionally placed at imperial gates and temples to ward off misfortune, stand here as guardians of the entrance. This small, public space serves as a symbolic marker for the eastern edge of Melbourne’s Chinatown, a district that dates back to the gold rush years of the eighteen fifties.
