The Melbourne Cricket Ground, known to everyone here as the G, is recognizable by the massive, towering light masts that ring the stadium and define the city's skyline. Established in eighteen fifty-three on land once used as a police paddock, it is the largest stadium in the Southern Hemisphere and the permanent home of the Melbourne Cricket Club.
