Birrarung Marr

Birrarung Marr is an eight-hectare urban park defined by its stepped, artificial terraces that descend toward the north bank of the Yarra River. Opened in two thousand two, the park occupies a site that for over a century was occupied by railway yards and industrial infrastructure. The name comes from the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people, with Birrarung meaning river of mists and Marr referring to the side of the river.
