The Block Arcade is an L-shaped shopping hall defined by its soaring glass canopy and intricate mosaic-tiled floors. Built between eighteen ninety-one and eighteen ninety-three, the arcade was designed by architect David C. Askew to reflect the grandeur of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan. It features ornate Victorian Mannerist facades facing Collins Street and Elizabeth Street, housing a collection of boutiques and cafes beneath its cast and wrought iron ceiling.
