The General Post Office in Melbourne is identifiable by its elaborate Renaissance Revival facade, which wraps around the prominent corner of Bourke and Elizabeth Streets with three distinct tiers of classical columns. Each level features a different architectural order—Doric at the base, Ionic in the middle, and Corinthian at the top—all topped by a grand clock tower. Historically, this site served as the primary nexus for mail in the colony, and it remains the official point from which all road distances from Melbourne are measured.
