The Iglesia de San Ignacio stands out for its ornate, brick Baroque facade that rises above the Plazuela de San Ignacio. Its construction began in eighteen hundred and three under the Franciscan order, intending to provide the city with a school and a place of worship. Architects Fray Luis Gutiérrez designed the original structure, which was completed in eighteen hundred and nine.
