Parroquia de la Veracruz

The Parroquia de la Veracruz sits as the city’s only colonial-style church, distinguishable by its modest, white-washed facade and the simple lines of its popular Baroque architecture. Built on land purchased by Captain Juan Céspedes de Hinestroza in sixteen eighty-two, the original structure served as a final resting place for foreign travelers in Medellín. It was often called the Hermitage of the Veracruz of the Foreigners, as those who helped fund its initial completion in seventeen twelve insisted on being buried within its walls.
