Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria

religious

The Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria is defined by its two prominent front towers and a stark, white-painted exterior that anchors the eastern side of Berrío Park. As the oldest church in Medellín, it sits at the site of the original town square, where the Spanish administration established a settlement in the middle of the seventeenth century. The current structure, inaugurated in seventeen seventy-six, serves as a colonial-era landmark that functioned as the city’s primary cathedral for over sixty years.
