The Maison du Peuple in Clichy is recognizable by its sleek, industrial exterior, featuring a steel frame and glass curtain walls that appear light despite their monumental scale. Built between nineteen thirty-five and nineteen thirty-nine, the structure was commissioned by Communist mayor Charles Auffray to cover the local outdoor market on the Rue de Lorraine while providing a modern space for the community. Architects Eugène Beaudouin and Marcel Lods, along with engineer Vladimir Bodiansky and the manufacturer Jean Prouvé, created a building entirely composed of metal and glass, avoiding traditional materials like concrete or mortar.
