Les Epinettes

The neighborhood of Les Épinettes takes its name from the épinette blanche, a white pinot grape once grown on its hillsides, or perhaps from the wild brambles that covered this land long before it became part of Paris. First mentioned in sixteen ninety-three, this area began as a quiet, agricultural hamlet on the city's rural outskirts. Its landscape was defined by vineyards and hunting grounds until the middle of the nineteenth century, when the quiet countryside gave way to the rapid industrialization of the capital.
