Arènes de Montmartre

The Arènes de Montmartre consist of a small, open-air amphitheater with tiered stone seating tucked away at twenty-five rue Chappe. Unlike the ancient Roman structures found elsewhere in the city, this site was built in nineteen forty-one by the local association Les Petits Poulbots. While it pays homage to classical design, the amphitheater was created as a functional necessity, serving as a structural buttress to support the fragile, gallery-pierced soil beneath the nearby church and water reservoir.
