Maison de Berlioz

At the junction of rue Saint-Vincent and rue du Mont-Cenis, a modern building now marks the site where the composer Hector Berlioz once lived in a country cottage. Before the city expanded to consume the north slope of the hill, this area was a quiet village outside the city walls. Berlioz moved to this rural setting in eighteen thirty-four with his wife, the actress Harriet Smithson, seeking a sanctuary from the noise and costs of central Paris.
