Moulin Rouge

The Moulin Rouge is distinguished by the large, red-painted windmill structure mounted on its facade above Boulevard de Clichy. Opened on October 6, 1889, by businessmen Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler, the cabaret was designed to provide an extravagant entertainment venue at the foot of Montmartre hill. It became an early pioneer of electrification in Paris, with its illuminated windmill serving as a beacon to draw patrons from across the city to its late-night dance hall and musical revues.
