The Église Saint-Pierre de Montmartre is marked by a modest, weathered stone facade and a quiet presence that contrasts sharply with the massive basilica looming just above it. Founded by King Louis the Sixth in eleven thirty-three, it ranks as the second oldest church still standing in Paris. While the famous Sacré-Cœur draws the crowds, this smaller structure served as the church for the prestigious Montmartre Abbey until the French Revolution brought the abbey to ruin.
