At twenty-two rue de Provence, the Maison de l'Art Nouveau stands as the namesake for an entire era of design. When the art dealer Siegfried Bing opened this gallery on December twenty-sixth, eighteen ninety-five, he transformed his existing business into a manifesto for a new, holistic approach to the domestic interior. Rather than displaying individual pieces in isolation, the gallery invited visitors into immersive rooms where furniture, stained glass, and wall coverings were designed to function as a singular, harmonious environment.
