The Cabaret du Néant, or Cabaret of Nothingness, was a nightspot on the Boulevard de Clichy defined by its grim, black-shuttered facade and the two flickering green lanterns that cast a corpse-like pallor on the faces of passersby. Established in the eighteen nineties by the illusionist Antonin Dorville, this venue turned death into an evening of theatrical spectacle.
