The Château d’Issy began as a refined French Baroque retreat, commissioned in sixteen eighty-one by Denis Talon. The architect Pierre Bullet designed the residence, and the landscape designer André Le Nôtre laid out the extensive gardens. By the time the Prince of Conti acquired the estate in sixteen ninety-nine, it had become a celebrated destination for aristocrats. The property stayed within the Bourbon-Conti family until the French Revolution, when it was confiscated.
