Place Léon Blum is identified by the bronze statue of the French statesman standing directly in front of the town hall of the eleventh arrondissement. This square was formed in eighteen fifty-seven as part of the urban projects commissioned by Napoleon the Third. It originally bore the name of Prince Eugène, but the title shifted to Place Voltaire in eighteen seventy, honoring the Enlightenment philosopher.
