The St. Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute sits at ninety-three, rue de Crimée, housed in a structure originally built as a German Lutheran church. In the early twentieth century, the site was purchased to support German workers in the city, but by nineteen twenty-five, it became the home for a new school of higher education. Founded by Russian exiles fleeing the aftermath of the nineteen seventeen Bolshevik Revolution, the institute was established to preserve theological traditions that were then being dismantled in Russia.
