The Théâtre Paris-Villette occupies a neoclassical building from eighteen sixty-seven, a structure once known as the Pavillon de la Bourse. During the nineteenth century, this hall served as the auction site for the massive livestock market and slaughterhouse complex of La Villette. Here, traders gathered under the building’s arcades to conduct business for thousands of animals arriving daily from across France, often closing their contracts with nothing more than a spoken word and a handshake.
