Fontaine du Palmier

The Fontaine du Palmier is a tall, slender victory column topped with a gilded bronze statue of a winged figure holding laurel wreaths. Rising eighteen meters into the air, its capital is carved to resemble palm fronds, an architectural nod to Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt. Bands of bronze wrap around the central shaft, each inscribed with the name of a battle won by Napoleon, including the victory at the Pyramids and the siege of Danzig.
