For-l'Évêque

The For-l'Évêque once stood near the corner of the rue Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois and the quai de la Mégisserie. Between twelve twenty-two and seventeen eighty-three, this site held a prison that began as the seat of the bishop's judicial power in Paris. By the time Louis the Fourteenth ended the bishop’s jurisdiction in sixteen seventy-four, the building had been transformed into a royal prison.
