Pont Saint-Michel

The Pont Saint-Michel is a stone arch bridge with three spans that crosses the Seine, connecting the Île de la Cité to the left bank. Its masonry features the letter N surrounded by laurel wreaths, the imperial insignia of Napoleon the Third, who commissioned this version during Baron Haussmann’s major redesign of the city. Completed in eighteen fifty-seven, the structure was built in just seven months without halting river traffic.
