Tomb of Ahmet Kaya

The grave of Ahmet Kaya in Père Lachaise Cemetery is marked by a simple white tombstone inscribed with the words, "I'm in the rains away from my country, it's evening, the exile is silent." A Kurdish-Turkish singer and composer, Kaya rose to prominence for protest songs that addressed social issues and advocated for Kurdish identity. His music earned him an award as the musician of the year in nineteen ninety-nine, but it also triggered intense political persecution that forced him to flee his home.
