Fontaine de Charonne

The Fontaine de Charonne stands at the corner of rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine and rue de Charonne, easily recognized by its tall, classical stone facade and the two bronze lion-head mascarons that release water into the street. Built between seventeen nineteen and seventeen twenty-four, it was one of five fountains ordered by the crown to supply the residents of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, a district that previously lacked reliable access to fresh water.
