Louise-Catherine

The Louise-Catherine is a seventy-meter-long reinforced concrete barge moored along the Seine near the Gare d'Austerlitz. Built in nineteen fifteen to transport coal between Rouen and Paris, it is the only watercraft in the city designated as a historic monument. Its identity changed in nineteen twenty-nine, when Madeleine Zillhardt purchased the vessel and donated it to the Salvation Army to house those in need, renaming it in honor of her companion, the painter Louise-Catherine Breslau.
