Arab World Institute

The Arab World Institute is easily identified by its south-facing wall, which is covered in two hundred and forty motorized metallic panels. These panels function like camera apertures, opening and closing automatically in response to the intensity of the sunlight to filter light into the interior. Inspired by the geometric latticework of traditional Arabic architecture, the design was the work of architect Jean Nouvel and was completed in nineteen eighty-seven.
