Harry's New York Bar

landmark

Harry's New York Bar, located at number five Rue Daunou, is identified by the wooden saloon-style doors that open into a space largely defined by its original dark mahogany bar. This fixture was dismantled in Manhattan and transported to Paris to furnish the establishment when it first opened on Thanksgiving Day, nineteen eleven. Originally established by the American jockey Tod Sloan, the bar was designed to offer expatriates a familiar atmosphere, and its interior remains lined with wood paneling, collegiate pennants, and sporting memorabilia from that era.
