The Hôtel de Bourgogne is the site of Paris’s first permanent theater, built in fifteen forty-eight. It stands on land that was once the residence of the Dukes of Burgundy, a connection preserved by the nearby Tour Jean-sans-Peur, which remains the only surviving remnant of the original ducal palace.
