Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, Paris

Notre-Dame-des-Victoires is a minor basilica marked by a facade that blends classical and baroque styles, with an upper section of Corinthian columns above a lower section of Ionic columns. King Louis the Thirteenth laid the foundation stone in sixteen twenty-nine, intending the church to be a monument to his military victory over the Protestants at the Siege of La Rochelle. Construction took over a century to finish, and the building later served as the headquarters for the national lottery and the Paris stock exchange during the French Revolution.
