Battle of Lutetia

The Arènes de Lutèce is a stone amphitheater tucked behind an arched passageway at forty-nine Rue Monge. It is the most significant Roman structure remaining in Paris, dating to the first century after Christ. While the modern city of Paris spans the Seine, the ancient Roman settlement of Lutetia concentrated its public life on the left bank, where this arena once hosted up to fifteen thousand spectators for stage plays, gladiatorial combat, and animal hunts.
