Medici Fountain

The Medici Fountain is defined by its long, shaded rectangular basin that leads the eye toward a stone grotto framed by thick, overhanging trees. Built around sixteen-thirty for Marie de' Medici, the widow of King Henri the Fourth, this monumental structure was originally a centerpiece of her private palace gardens. It was designed in an Italian style, echoing the Boboli Gardens of her youth in Florence, as part of her effort to recreate that atmosphere in Paris.
